This song was always something that made me feel upbeat and happy when I was a kid. I've always been a fan of what I refer to as a "breakdown" in the chorus, which means that there is a traveling up and down the musical notes from high to low to high or so. When a song stays too monotone in a way, it bothers me. I know that this not proper musical terminology, but give me a break. I was in chorus in 7th and 8th grade, but that was it. I just don't have the vocabulary.

Regardless, I loved this song. It was a comforting chorus line and I think that's why it appealed to so many of us as teenagers. I remember it came out when I was in middle school, I believe 6th or 7th grade. I carried a lot of resentment and just bitterness around during that time in my life. My parents had just separated and filed for divorce, and it's like they immediately went out and found new partners the next day. That would have been fine if they also hadn't immediately moved in together or, in my dad's case, married them three months later.

Now that I'm older, I still love this song, but I see my role in relating to it from more of the narrator's point of view. I believe that there is a hope beyond what we see and I think that being positive and believing that you can just hold on and live your life is an important part of growing up.
